In 1837 when the Queen Victorian went to throne the school was especially for the rich children. The rich girls went in boarding school and the other stayed at home, raised by governess.

But at the end of XIX century Mr Robert Raikes created «Sunday school» for poor children, it was a religious education. It was the sunday because it was the last free day for the children who worked in a factory.

In the class, boys and girls were separated. The boys were in the little school but the girls were in the same classroom.

The teachers were women because for the men the wages were to low. The women were very strict.

For the nasty children, there was « punischment ». They were beat with a stick ( for example: on the hand , on the back or the bottom of the legs ) It was awful . The punitions were when children were rude , answering back , speaking out of turn , also for poor work : in fact anything that displeased the teacher .
